政治科学 is the study of politics at the local, state, national and international levels. We strive to help our students better understand their community and the world around them, as well as provide them with opportunities and experiences that will empower them to become more active, 知情和参与的公民. 在我们部门内部, 我们优先考虑三个关键领域:社区, 体验式学习和学术研究.

从实践经验中学习. We recognize the importance and value of learning outside the classroom. These opportunities not only enhance and reinforce what students have learned in the classroom, 但它们也为学生提供了实践经验, networking opportunities and greater clarity about what they might want to do upon graduation.
奖学金. We offer seminar-style courses (15-20 students per class) that allow for discussion-based learning as well as extensive one-on-one interactions between students and faculty. Our focus is on helping our students better develop their reading, 写作和批判性思维能力, which will lead to more career opportunities and a greater chance for success following graduation.

Political Reconciliation and the Search for Universal Rights
全球和平与和解倡议 is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in international affairs with a focus on issues surrounding peace and reconciliation efforts around the world. The program examines the historical struggle for peace and human rights, 无论是在美国国内还是在世界各地.

Model UN allows 体育菠菜大平台 students the opportunity to learn by doing while traveling and meeting students from colleges and universities all over the world. 会员参加年度, international conferences that simulate the politics and processes of the United Nations, allowing them to explore international problem-solving through a framework of global citizenship.

Most of our students engage at some point in undergraduate research during their time at 体育菠菜大平台. This involves one-on-one faculty-student mentoring on an independent research project chosen by the student. 学生 receive a significant stipend for doing this work, either through the 本科研究 Fellows (URF) program or the Summer Student Research Program (SSRP). Many of our students have presented their work at professional conferences (in Chicago, St. 路易, 圣地亚哥, 波特兰和东京, to name a few) and have published their work in professional journals.
